But a funny thing happened in the first two-and-a-half months of the AHL season. McQuaid picked up right where he left off after Providence’s deep playoff run a year ago — playing reliable, shutdown defense against the opposition with his partner, Andrew Bodnarchuk. As both grew into their roles and established themselves as plus-players, the pair also began adding offense.

The Providence Bruins will probably miss the playoffs for the first time in 12 years, but crowds at the Dunkin Donuts Center remain strong. Attendence has exceeded 10000 for three of the last four home games, and Providence has moved up to fifth … Hershey (9524), Manitoba (7964), Chicago (7865), and Grand Rapids (7046) are the only AHL teams with higher averages than Providence.
